LARRY LEGEND · PRIVATE SIGNINGS
Larry Legend signs my custom collage
Another Boston Celtics legend has signed one of my custom designs! Larry Bird took part in a private signing through Vault Autographs, and my collage was among the pieces he signed. After my Kevin McHale signing, adding Larry’s autograph makes this an especially exciting chapter in the collection.
A custom tribute, signed by Larry Legend
When I create a collage, I want it to celebrate the person’s career. For Larry Bird, that meant Celtics green, championship memories, and a nod to his time representing the United States. His signature across the white space at the bottom brings the whole piece together.
There’s something especially rewarding about having a legend sign a design you created yourself. This started as my way of honoring Larry’s accomplishments, and now it’s a signed piece I can proudly include in my collection.
Why they call him Larry Legend
Larry Bird helped lead the Boston Celtics to three NBA championships—in 1981, 1984, and 1986. With Kevin McHale and Robert Parish alongside him, Boston’s famous frontcourt became one of the defining groups of its era.
His individual résumé is extraordinary: three NBA Most Valuable Player awards, two Finals MVP awards, 12 All-Star selections, and nine All-NBA First Team selections. He was also the NBA’s Rookie of the Year in 1980.
Bird could shoot, pass, rebound, and make the right play when a game was on the line. His skill and competitive drive, together with his rivalry with Magic Johnson, helped bring a new generation of fans to the NBA. “Larry Legend” is a fitting nickname for someone whose impact went well beyond the box score.
He also helped the United States win Olympic gold in 1992. Bird was individually enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998, cementing his place among the game’s greats.
Another door into the collection
As I wrote in my Kevin McHale post, private signings can create opportunities that aren’t available through conventions or through-the-mail requests. An organizer arranges the signing and handles collectors’ items on their behalf.
For some legends, that may be the most practical way to get a personal item signed. Being able to submit my own collage makes the opportunity even better: I can choose exactly how I want to celebrate that person’s career.
Thank you to Paul Coston and Vault Autographs
A huge thank-you to Paul Coston and Vault Autographs for making this Larry Bird signing possible and helping get my custom collage signed. After the Kevin McHale experience, it’s wonderful to have another Celtics legend represented this way.
I really appreciate the work that goes into coordinating these opportunities for collectors. When you’ve put time and thought into a design, having someone handle the signing on your behalf means a lot.
