Nicolas Cage leads an incredible three-return mail day

Three custom collages came back signed in today’s mail, and Nicolas Cage is the big one! Joining him were Jon Gries and Cliff Bleszinski—a fantastic mix of movies, television, and video games, all arriving on the same day.

The highlight of today’s mail: Nicolas Cage, personalized “To Scott” on my custom collage.

Nicolas Cage: the highlight of the day

Getting this one back is a huge thrill. Nicolas Cage personalized my collage “To Scott” and signed the space at the bottom. Of today’s three returns, this is the one I’m most excited about—a major movie star with a career full of unforgettable performances, now represented in my collection by a signed design I created for him.

Cage’s career is remarkably varied. He made his mark in films such as Raising Arizona and Moonstruck, and won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Leaving Las Vegas at the 1996 Oscars. He can bring intensity to a dramatic role and then turn around and deliver something wildly funny or larger than life.

For action fans, the titles speak for themselves: The Rock, Con Air, and Face/Off. Add the National Treasure adventures and Ghost Rider, and there are plenty of different reasons someone might immediately recognize him. That range is a big part of what makes his career so memorable.

My collage brings together different chapters of that career, including his long-haired look from Con Air. Having it returned with his autograph is exactly the kind of moment that makes through-the-mail collecting exciting. This one deserves the spotlight!

Jon Gries: from Uncle Rico to The White Lotus

Jon Gries also sent back my custom collage today, complete with a personal inscription and a big signature, plus a peace sign and heart. Those little additions give a return its own personality.

My Jon Gries custom collage, returned with a personal inscription, signature, peace sign, and heart.

For many movie fans, Jon will always be Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite—the football-obsessed uncle who can’t quite let go of his glory days. It’s an instantly recognizable comedy role, and the Uncle Rico images are a big part of this design.

Horror fans will also remember Jon in The Monster Squad (1987), where he played the human form of the Wolfman, credited as “Desperate Man.” It’s another memorable role in a career that spans much more than comedy.

His career stretches well beyond that character. He played Lazlo Hollyfeld in Real Genius, Broots in The Pretender, and Roger Linus in Lost. More recently, he reached another audience as Greg in HBO’s The White Lotus. From offbeat comedy to television drama, he’s one of those actors whose work connects with fans of very different shows and films.

Cliff Bleszinski: a name behind Gears of War

Rounding out today’s mail was game designer Cliff Bleszinski, known to gamers as CliffyB. He personalized my design “To Scott,” added “Stay vertical!” and signed it—a great finishing touch for this Gears of War collage.

Cliff Bleszinski signed my Gears of War design and added “Stay vertical!”

Cliff is best known for his leading creative role in Gears of War during his years at Epic Games. His career also includes work on Jazz Jackrabbit and the Unreal series, spanning very different eras of gaming. He later told his story in the memoir Control Freak.

This return celebrates someone behind the experiences on the screen. The dark imagery and red gear emblem in my design put his best-known work front and center, and his handwritten message makes it a personal addition to the collection.

An Oscar-winning movie star, a memorable film and television actor, and a major name in game design—all in one mail day. Thank you to Nicolas, Jon, and Cliff for taking the time to sign and return my collages. Nicolas Cage may be today’s headline, but I’m delighted to add all three!
