Emmy’s first big comic con: five Marvel stars, one unforgettable day
Seven years ago today, on October 12, 2019, I took Emmy to her first major comic con in Chicago. Looking back at these pictures from ACE Comic Con, I still can’t believe the lineup we managed to meet in a single day.
Five Marvel stars. One day.
Chris Hemsworth, Tom Holland, Jake Gyllenhaal, Tessa Thompson, and Brie Larson. That’s Thor, Spider-Man, Mysterio, Valkyrie, and Captain Marvel—all in one day, and all with Emmy right there beside me.
For someone who loves collecting these moments, that would have been an incredible day on its own. Getting to share it with my daughter at her first major comic con made it something I’ll always treasure. These photos have a special place in my collection because we’re in them together.
The perfect smile
I’ll admit it: I gave Emmy a little coaching beforehand about giving the perfect smile. These were big Marvel stars we were about to meet, and I wanted us to come away with great pictures to remember it all.
Well, she nailed every single one! Five photos, five huge names, and that same wonderful smile in every picture. Looking through them now, I have to smile myself. Whatever advice Dad thought he needed to give, Emmy clearly had it covered.
Seven years later, I’m glad we have these pictures to look back on. I’ve taken a lot of celebrity photos over the years, but this set will always remind me of Emmy’s first big comic con—and a day we got to experience together.
